Mike Burns, Sr.
Passed away on September 07, 2022

Mike Burns Sr died on September 7th, 2022 in his Savannah home of 35 years under the care of GHC Hospice. He was born on December 2,1935 in Highland Park, MI.
Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosemarie Burns; his sisters Maggie Johnson and Maureen Sanders, brother Tommy Burns, children Dennis, Michael (Brenda)Burns and Mary (David) Grider; his grandchildren Stephanie (David) Fox, Bridgette (Nicholas) Rogers, Karl Burns, Rachel Burns, and Natalie Grider; great grand children Riley and Evelyn Fox.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stella and Gerald Burns and brothers Larry, Col. James Burns, Col. Jerry Burns.
Upon his graduation from high school in Muskegon, MI he entered the US Army Corp of Engineers and was based at Edwards Air Force base. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Chicago where he attended and graduated, BA, college at Roosevelt University. This is where he met his wife of 60 years Rosemarie Klem. Mike continued his education earning a MBA with Honors at DePaul University.
Mike was employed as a CPA for Peat Marwick Mitchell, IC Industries, Michael Reese Hospital. In 1986 he accepted a position at Memorial Health which brought him to Savannah, Ga. Mike then closed his career as a Sr. Internal Auditor for Chatham County government.
Mike was a very devout Catholic attending and serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. James the Less. He was a member of the original Carmelite Secular in the 1990’s serving as president and treasurer for many years. He also served as a member of the St. John Vianney vocations.
Mike enjoyed trout fishing his entire life and that hobby took him to many locations across the country. He was also an avid runner competing in races from 10k’s to Marathons, winning awards for his age group.
A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church.

I worked with Mike at Chatham County. He was a valued employee for the County and a good friend to me. He was indeed a fine Christian gentleman.
